Advanced Learning DesignsIn excellent school models, we learn in academically, intellectually and personally challenging ways. We set high expectations for students and provide support to reach those expectations. Our learning cycle includes:
Standards-Based: Standards-based unit design derived from curriculum models which exceed state and national standards Course content is multi-aged, interdisciplinary and individualized to meet our student learner needs. Curriculum: Curriculum, instruction and expectations are geared towards advancing self-directed learning skills, 21st century learning skills and high potential of student growth. Agency: Students develop and apply advanced habits of scholarship needed to master a relevant tasks, projects and assessments. Assessment: Formative assessment informs instructional adjustments for every learner. Units culminate in summative assessments that are varied, challenging, and allow students to demonstrate their knowledge. |
Meaningful and Relevant LearningWe make learning meaningful and relevant to students. We develop and apply skills to real-world circumstances. We demonstrate learning to public audiences, as advocates to raise awareness of issues, educate others, or create change.
Teachers learn alongside students as they explore relevant connections to the world and larger community. Engaging curriculum brings student interests into the content and learning activities. As teachers, we facilitate instruction which is student-centered and reaches neurodiverse learners. We strive to connect our learning products to a public audience through exhibitions, evenings of performance and interactions with community members. |
